Objective’s SharePoint integration, ObjectPoint, allows SharePoint users to actively participate in the comprehensive document lifecycle prescribed by the Objective ECM platform.  SharePoint users become full members of the ECM lifecycle. Their documents are managed from creation through to archiving so organisations can implement a true “single source of the truth” strategy within a compliant and managed environment.

Best practice document management dictates that all content should be managed in a consistent and cohesive manner, no matter its source. Capturing all content into Objective as early in the lifecycle as possible is one way to guarantee best practice. Thereby ensuring content will be safely managed and retained for as long as required while remaining transparently available to both SharePoint users and, perhaps more importantly, other business users utilising other Objective client applications.

ObjectPoint Content Management product provides comprehensive integration between Objective and SharePoint repositories, addressing lifecycle management, compliance and operational MIS issues.

ObjectPoint Secure Search

SharePoint interacts well with Microsoft Office centric documents. However, organisations produce and process many other types of information, including images, engineering drawings, historic e-mails, system generated correspondence and reports that are not necessarily incorporated and managed within SharePoint. Objective’s content independence makes it an enhanced platform for a variety of Enterprise Content, physical records being another excellent example.

Objective’s ObjectPoint Secure Search allows SharePoint users to perform a single search across all types of information, regardless of where that information resides (whether in SharePoint document libraries or the Objective repository) and have the search results delivered to the SharePoint search results interface.

Crucially, the search results from Objective are filtered according to the Objective security model to ensure that users only see results they have the appropriate privileges, classifications and caveats for.

ObjectPoint Web Part Services

SharePoint is a collaborative portal application allowing dashboard-style application components to be composited through the one interface. Often these component interfaces, otherwise known as portlets, are front pages into legacy applications. While users may initiate access to these applications through SharePoint, they are typically driven to the source application. Authentication and identity management are the hidden issues here.

Objective's ObjectPoint Web Part Services provides a series of out-of-the-box Web Parts for SharePoint that allow SharePoint users to navigate the Objective hierarchy and interact with content managed by Objective.

ObjectPoint Web Parts are produced by combining XML feeds from Objective with XSL stylesheets stored in Objective meaning that the possibilities for additional Web Parts are almost endless.

Because Objective precisely implements security standards like Kerberos, LDAP, WS-Security, X.509 and ActiveDirectory, our ability to offer single sign-on portlet content to SharePoint is second to none. The result is that combining Objective with SharePoint creates a simple unified experience.

ObjectPoint Content Management provides:

  • Rule based integration between Objective and SharePoint using the SharePoint Record Center interface to move content from SharePoint to Objective manually, automatically or programmatically.
  • Aliases in the SharePoint site that leave ‘pointers’ or ‘stubs’ in SharePoint for documents submitted to Objective, allowing for transparent access from within SharePoint.
  • The ability to retrieve documents from Objective and restore them to the SharePoint site on user invocation, in the process ‘locking’ the document from editing in other Objective client interfaces

ObjectPoint Secure Search provides:

  • Ability for SharePoint to crawl Objective content using standard URLs
  • Implementation of the SharePoint Security Trimmer interface to ensure that search results delivered in SharePoint to the Objective security model

Examples of Objective Web Parts for SharePoint are:

  • Recently Added Documents
  • Documents Awaiting My Approval
  • My Home Folder
  • My Tasks
  • Folder Contents
  • Document Query
  • Context Query
  • WebTalk
