Objective Corporation releases Objective 7

The next generation in Enterprise Content Management

Objective Corporation (ASX: OCL) today announced the launch of the next major release of its Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution, Objective 7.

Objective 7 is a complete ECM solution that connects an organisation’s content with the people who need it, when they need it. It enables customers to leverage enterprise content as a valuable and strategic asset, offering a central point of access, management, security and control.

Objective 7 extends Objective’s reputable solution to span the entire breadth of an organisation’s unstructured information.

Objective 7 remains true to Objective’s long held vision of the benefits of a single product solution. Objective 7 introduces Web Content Management, a revolutionary approach to Workflow and Drawing Management functionality, as well a host of new capabilities that enhance usability and implementation.

To date, Objective software has been respected as having one of the industry’s most scalable and robust architectures. Drawing upon this experience, Objective 7 is built on a Service Oriented Architecture, providing customers with unparalleled scalability and flexibility of deployment.

Mr Tony Walls, CEO Asia Pacific, Objective Corporation said: “Objective 7 is a significant milestone for the company.”

“Objective 7 has been designed with the needs of people in mind. Not only people within an enterprise, but all of the people that create, contribute, manage and consume content. These people are clearly the staff of an organisation, but they might also customers, citizens, suppliers or partners – each have different requirements and demands for an enterprise’s content. Objective 7 enables organisations to leverage a unified content repository to meet the diverse content needs of the large community of people it interacts with,” said Mr Walls.

“Objective 7 offers the most complete single product ECM solution on the market today, and clearly positions Objective as a leader in the global ECM market.

“In keeping with our philosophy of protecting our customers’ investments in Objective, all existing customers will be provided with the relevant Objective 7 modules under their Upgrade and Support Program,” said Mr Walls.

Web Content Management

Objective Web Content Management (WCM) delivers the publishing benefits of template based web site design with the control and governance facilities provided by advanced document management functionality.

An integral component of the Objective ECM solution, Objective WCM introduces the concept of single sourcing for content published to the internet or an intranet. It provides improved efficiency in publishing, together with currency and accuracy of information. Customers no longer need to maintain multiple, uncontrolled copies and versions of content for publishing to the enterprise, an intranet or the internet.

It delivers improved productivity where anyone within an organisation, given appropriate security and privileges, can publish information to a website, without the need for specialised web design skills.

Objective WCM also provides organisations with a complete, historic record of all content published to web sites at any point in time, assisting resolution of customer disputes and mitigating litigation risks.

Object-Centric Workflow

Objective 7 introduces a revolutionary approach to workflow. In response to customers requiring maximum flexibility in workflow functionality, Objective has introduced “object-centric” workflow. This is where the object, or folder, containing content relevant to the workflow becomes the focus of the workflow, rather than the process itself being the focus. Individual objects or folders can also be the subject of multiple workflows.

This style of workflow is ideally suited to knowledge-based processes such as ministerial responses within government departments, where the complete business process may not be known at the beginning of the process. It is also ideal for development applications within local government organisations, case management workflows for legal matters or project management workflows in a multitude of industries.

People contributing to the workflow have immediate access to any of the content they need to work on the process. Subject to security and privileges, these people also have a degree of control over the direction of the process, such as assigning tasks to different people or roles, starting an associated workflow, initiating adhoc route exceptions or expediting a process in an urgent situation.

Objective offers object-centric workflow in addition to process-centric workflow. Objective Workflow offers commonly sought after features such as: priorities, due dates, alarms and notifications; visual workflow maps, multiple nested workflows, task delegation and XML based workflow definitions.

Objective Workflow is integral to the complete ECM solution, which means all workflows are managed as records for compliance, auditing and recordkeeping purposes.

Drawing Management

Objective’s Drawing Management module tightly integrates marketleading CAD applications with Objective, offering comprehensive management for engineering drawings as an integral component of the ECM solution.

Objective Drawing Management provides full support for title block updating, sheet management, version specific object linking and advanced reservation capabilities.

By managing drawings as part of their broader enterprise content, organisations are able to provide people with easy access to not only CAD files, but also supporting documentation such as design specifications, maintenance manuals, corporate and policy information. This access can be extended to staff within organisations, as well as external contractors or suppliers, subject to appropriate authority and security.

Enhanced Functionality

Enhanced functionality in Objective 7 also includes:

Objective Offline – comprehensive document management capability for laptop users.

Enhanced Search – 3 levels of search capability for all types of users: those who want a simple search string; those searching titles, text and meta data; and those requiring complex Boolean searching.

Single Product Solution

In keeping with Objective’s vision, design philosophy and customer demand, all of the new functionality in Objective is integral to the single product ECM solution.

Customers have the choice of a Windows client or browser-based portal interface, with absolutely seamless functionality across all modules. Users have only one interface to learn, greatly assisting with user training and acceptance and a single point of access and collaboration for all information.

The single product solution provides a single content repository, delivering a seamless, comprehensive view of all enterprise content, regardless of its format or origin.

Revolutionary Service Oriented Architecture

In a world first for Enterprise Content Management solutions, Objective 7 is built on industry leading Service Oriented Architecture.

Service Oriented Architecture offers vastly superior benefits over traditional n-tier architecture from the perspective of flexibility of deployment, scalability and fault tolerance.

Release Date

Objective 7 will be available in April 2005.
