Architecture

Enterprise Content Management is mission critical for many organisations. As more and more people interact with your content, the more critical your ECM application becomes. Any mission critical application must not only be manageable and supportable it must also be:

To support these needs Objective 7 is built on an industry leading Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and incorporates Web Services and an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).

Objective's Service Oriented Architecture

Service Oriented Architecture is essentially an architectural style that aims to split core software services into separate modules (or 'services'). This means that services can exist on different machines and in different locations to assist in scalability and redundancy, but also that services can be easily substituted for other services potentially written in different languages on different platforms.

Web Services are one of a number of technologies that can be used to expose SOA services.

Where SOA provides functionality and Web Services provide lightweight access to that functionality, an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) provides the means to easily orchestrate those services in cooperation with services from other sources. The ESB provides a new level of abstraction from the SOA required for Enterprise Architects to effectively make use of the services offered by disparate systems.

Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)

The Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) is a scalable, highly distributable object broker that can seamlessly handle interactions between services and applications using disparate transport and messaging technologies. Importantly, ESB technologies are standards-based, scalable and flexible, supporting many transport protocols.

Objective implements Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technology in the form of the Objective Content Bus, which is at the very heart of the product. It is the foundation of integration infrastructure that offers the best environment for connecting applications resulting in optimum performance and stability.

The Objective Content Bus extends Objective beyond content management to the core of your enterprise architecture.

Objective WebTalk

WebTalk is a core component of Objective’s Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). It delivers comprehensive integration and interoperability capabilities. It’s based on Web Services and provides a robust architecture for combining enterprise content management functionality with other enterprise applications, offering SOAP, REST, POX and JSON communications.
