Queensland's Port of Brisbane Corporation selects Objective for enterprise-wide knowledge management
The Port of Brisbane Corporation is building a foundation for knowledge management, automating business processes and improving its recordkeeping practices with the implementation of an enterprise content management solution from Objective Corporation. The Port of Brisbane Corporation manages Australia's third-largest
capital city port. Its primary role is to facilitate trade growth and
currently around 24 million tones are traded through the port each
year. This is expected to more than double by the year 2025 and the
Corporation is undertaking a major expansion project to cater for the
rapid commercial growth in the area. As part of its strategic planning for growth and in a quest to improve current business practices, Chief Executive Officer Mr Jeff Coleman said the Corporation needed a powerful solution that would provide timely, accurate and secure management of its corporate knowledge base. In addition to improving information management, the Corporation also needed a solution to help ensure compliance with increasingly stringent recordkeeping legislation and standards such as the Queensland Public Records Act (2002), Information Standards 18, 31, 40, 41 & 42 and ISO 15489. The Port of Brisbane Corporation expects the solution to improve several areas of its electronic document management including: email, document control, workflow and records management. "The solution's ability to become a routine part of all business transactions, rather than create an addition to workload, is a distinct advantage," said Mr Coleman. The Port of Brisbane Corporation viewed Objective's ability to cater for diverse types of electronic information and its strong integration capability with other systems as major benefits to Corporate knowledge management. It was the system's usability, however, that was the deciding factor. "The usability of the system across the various parts of our business was critical. "Objective has an easy to learn and easy to use interface, which we found familiar and intuitive. We expect this to have a major influence on system uptake and acceptance by our staff, and this is considered to be a key factor in the overall success of this project," said Mr Coleman. "Objective will enable our people to have access to a powerful search and retrieval browser, along with the tools to assist them in managing electronic information and to contribute to corporate knowledge. "We expect the Objective system to be in place by December 2004 and are very confident that it will facilitate the efficient management and necessary security of the Corporation's knowledge assets now and into the future," Mr Coleman said. -ends- |
