2002 Press ReleasesDate: 29 January 2002 Department of Transport and Regional Services invests
further in Objective solution
Leading knowledge and process management software developer, Objective
Corporation
Limited (ASX:OCL), today announced a major new contract with IT&T
infrastructure provider, Telstra Enterprise Services Pty Limited, to deliver
software and additional services to longterm customer, the Commonwealth
Department of Transport and Regional Services
(DOTARS). The goal of this new contract is to ultimately expand DOTARS' existing
implementation of
Objective's records management software, to a Parliamentary Information
Management
System (PIMS) and enterprise-wide, 1000-user Electronic Document Management
System
(EDMS). "The records management, EDMS and PIMS systems are all key components
of the
Department's IT Strategic Plan and form the basis of a knowledge management
platform for DOTARS," said Tony Walls, CEO Asia Pacific, Objective Corporation.
"With increasing
levels of government business conducted electronically, the ability to
access unstructured
data, such as Word and email documents, easily is essential for DOTARS." DOTARS assists the Commonwealth Government to achieve policy goals in
transport and
regional services, by facilitating a better transport system and greater
recognition and opportunities for local, regional and territory communities.
The Department advises Ministers and the Parliamentary Secretary on policy
options and also provides regulatory,
investigative, safety, grants and research services. In March 1999, DOTARS first implemented an Objective solution for physical
records
management as the foundation of its information management strategy. The
Department
has used the system to achieve greater accountability of information and
decision making
processes, and will be one of the first government departments to gain
compliance with the
National Archives of Australia's new e-permanence standard. DOTARS will use Objective's electronic document management, workflow
and records
management software to register, process, track, and report on inbound
correspondence to
the Minister and manage the subsequent drafting and approval process of
responding to the
enquirer. This will replace the current paper-driven manual process. In addition to PIMS, DOTARS will implement an enterprise Objective EDMS
upon completing
a successful Phase 1. All of the unstructured information produced throughout
the course of
the Department's diverse operations - both physical and electronic - will
be stored,
managed, processed and approved within the Objective solution. Objective Corporation has worked closely with DOTARS over the past three
years, and will
continue to provide consulting services for the system implementation. "The partnership oriented relationship we enjoy with DOTARS has resulted
in Objective
Corporation developing new technology in our product releases, based on
suggestions made by the Department," said Mr Walls. "This assists us in
ensuring we continue to develop products relevant to market demand, and
it means we can deliver solutions that better meet our customers business
requirements." -ends- About Objective Corporation
