Objective helps to protect Consumers and Workers in Western Australia

The Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DOCEP) of Western Australia has selected Objective Corporation (ASX:OCL) to provide an enterprise-wide electronic document and records management solution (EDRMS) to be used by 900 people across multiple agencies.

DOCEP monitors and regulates employment and trading environments to protect workers and consumers through its five operational divisions – Consumer Protection, Labour Relations, WorkSafe, Energy Safety and Resource Safety.

Working with a plethora of document types across all five divisions, DOCEP needed a solution that would support a standardised approach to information management to lay the foundation for improved business processes as the organisation responds to significant market changes. Objective’s enterprise-wide solution will benefit 900 people including policy officers, occupational health and safety officers, education groups and customer service staff.

The Department came into being via the amalgamation of three WA government agencies in July 2001 and inherited incompatible and disparate legacy systems that were unable to meet the strategic needs and complexity of the department. Objective will replace existing systems creating a single corporate store of information and a single point of access for all users to support DOCEP’s diverse business practices.

Objective will enable DOCEP to provide services online and make the biggest impact in areas with incoming forms, for example: Business Names, REVS, and licensing areas such as; travel agents, real estate agents, finance brokers and others. Forms will be scanned and cued in readiness for processing, cutting out physical delivery and giving better process times.

Objective will build a bridge between paper files, incoming documents and business information making a more meaningful connection between unstructured and highly structured information, which will enable information to be more effectively utilised enterprise-wide.

Objective will enable DOCEP to become more transparent and add value by improving access, usability and provide better management of DOCEP’s intellectual property – ultimately encouraging knowledge-sharing.

DOCEP will use Objective to ensure compliance with the WA State Records Act 2000 and ISO 15489 while enabling integration, participation and information sharing with other organisations and industries throughout WA.

Enterprise-wide improvements in business processes through the implementation of Objective will allow the department to focus on high value areas, such as policy and compliance, while increasing productivity and enabling effective timely responses to changes in the marketplace.

Tony Walls, CEO, Objective Corporation said: “Objective’s ability to provide an intuitive user experience and proven track-record of successful multi-agency implementations was viewed favourably by the department’s evaluation panel.

“Objective’s selection by DOCEP demonstrates Objectives capability to consistently deliver seamless, scalable enterprise content management for government,” said Mr Walls.
